Poised to cushion effects of existing deficit, the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has affirmed commitment of government in working with private developers and other partners to meet housing needs of the people.

Sanwo-Olu said this during the commissioning of a 100-unit Bayview Estate project in Ikate-Elegushi, Lekki. The governor said his government is building houses for the upper-middle and middle market, the medium and low-income earners.

The project is a Joint Venture Project (JVP) between the State’s Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) and Misa Limted. It consists of 68 terraces of four bedrooms and 32 flats of three bedrooms built on a total land area of 23,000square metres,

The estate features fitted kitchen, sanitary fixtures, HDF wardrobe, main lounge and store.

Facilities in the estate are water treatment plant, generator house, recreation house, car park, central sewage system and gymnasium.

The Bayview project was embarked upon during Sanwo-Olu’s tenure as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, LSDPC. He explained that there are many other private sector schemes that the government is jointly developing with the organised private sector to ensure affordable and accessible housing to the citizens.

The Commissioner for Housing, Mr. Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, reassured the people that the government would bring solutions to the issue of housing deficit as well as revitalise the economy.

He said: “Construction works at the various sites of housing schemes have resulted in economic vibrancy for both skilled workers and artisans through creation of direct and indirect employment. The areas have also been revitalised with increased commercial activities from both the supply and demand side of housing development. ”

Managing Director, LSDPC, Mr. Dhikrullah Har-Yusuph, said the estate is ready for occupation. He acknowledged massive investment into the sub-structural element of the estate.

Har-Yusuph said: ‘‘The land was marshy, swampy lowland that is typical of the terrain in this vicinity. We have an estate ready for habitation without any fear of flooding, despite the terrain.”
