The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has introduced self-service fuel pumps at selected NNPC Retail stations, allowing motorists to buy and dispense petrol themselves using a mobile application.

The initiative is part of NNPC Retail’s plan to deploy between 50 and 70 smart, self-service stations across Nigeria within the next six months.

Unlike conventional filling stations where attendants dispense fuel, the new system allows motorists to select the amount of petrol they want, pay through the app and use a digital code to activate the pump.

NNPC Retail shared a step-by-step guide on its X handle on Friday explaining how motorists can use the new facility.

How to Use NNPC Self-Service Fuel Pumps

1. Download the NRL Fuel App

Download the NRL Fuel App using the link provided by NNPC Retail on its X handle.

2. Select Fuel Purchase

Open the app, tap “Fuel Purchase” and select your preferred fuel type.

3. Choose a Participating NNPC Station

Browse the list of available stations and select an NNPC Retail station offering the self-service option.

Participating stations are identified by a green “Self-Serve” badge beside the station name.

4. Enter the Amount and Pay

Enter the amount you want to spend on petrol.

Review the fuel quantity and price, then tap “Pay from Wallet” to complete the transaction.

5. Get Your Self-Service Code

After a successful payment, the app will generate a digital receipt containing your Order ID, Self-Service Code and QR Code.

6. Activate the Pump

At the fuel pump, enter the eight-digit Self-Service Code on the terminal and press the hash key.

Once the code is validated, pick up the nozzle and dispense the exact quantity of fuel purchased.

NNPC Plans 70 Smart Fuel Stations

NNPC Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, said the self-service model is part of the company’s plan to transform conventional filling stations into broader energy and mobility hubs.

At the newly commissioned smart station on Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja, NNPC Retail Executive Director, Retail Operations and Mobility, Shettima Baba-Kukawa, said motorists could complete transactions using their phones and dispense the exact amount of fuel purchased.

NNPC said the smart stations will combine conventional petrol sales with services including electric vehicle charging, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), compressed natural gas (CNG) and other mobility services.

The self-service facility is currently available only at selected NNPC Retail stations as the company continues its nationwide rollout.
