The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has set up a joint technical team with the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) to look into the report prepared by the latter on circumstances surrounding the building collapse at 6th Avenue, Gwarinpa Estate on Thursday, 2nd February, killing three persons.

The team was constituted during presentation of the report to FCT Minister, Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, on Monday by FHA Chairman, Sen. Lawal Shuaibu at the FCTA Secretariat, Area 11, Garki, Abuja.

According to the meeting, investigation by the technical team will also assist in strengthening the internal working mechanism of the agencies, as well as help ensuring that those found culpable in the incident would “face appropriate punishment commensurate with the crime committed.”

The FCT Minister, while announcing revocation of allocation of the collapsed building plot, in line with FCTA policy, regretted the loss of lives and commiserated with the families of the deceased and directed that a compensation plan be prepared for them.

Stressing the need for cases of contraventions on developments to go beyond services of ‘stop work notices’, the two organisations resolved to “work very closely together to prevent any future occurrence”.

The meeting also commended various agencies involved in the rescue efforts that saved 21 lives.
