The Rivers State government has reaffirmed its commitment to collaborating with industry professionals to ensure the delivery of high-quality infrastructure.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara made the pledge during a courtesy visit by the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) at its annual General Meeting and National Conference held in Port Harcourt. The event, themed ‘Strengthening the Quantity Surveying Practices and Processes for Growth and Sustainability in a Turbulent Economy,’ underscored the growing partnership between the state government and the institute.

Fubara emphasized the importance of working with experts to ensure the timely and efficient completion of projects, stating, “We value partnerships that provide the best for the people of Rivers State. Quantity surveyors bring the expertise needed to complete projects on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.”

The governor also reiterated his commitment to the professional growth of quantity surveyors within the state’s civil service. “We’ll ensure quantity surveyors get the certifications and training they need to perform at their best, not just locally but anywhere in the world,” he added.

In his address, NIQS President Kene Nzekwe praised the governor’s strides in infrastructure development, highlighting the Port Harcourt Ring Road project as a key milestone. “This project, covering six local councils, shows your administration’s commitment to bringing development to every corner of the state,” Nzekwe said.

He also lauded the government’s efforts in education, healthcare, and economic diversification, describing them as critical steps toward long-term growth. Nzekwe stressed the significant role of quantity surveyors in ensuring financial efficiency and the success of infrastructure projects.

“Quantity surveyors are indispensable professionals in the construction industry, specializing in cost management and maintaining fiscal integrity,” Nzekwe noted. He urged the state to engage quantity surveyors throughout all project phases to ensure cost-effective and timely outcomes.

“We’re here to ensure financial efficiency, reduce wastage, and maximize value for every naira spent,” he said, while calling on the governor to support the state’s chapter in playing a greater role in professional development and community engagement. “Your support for the chapter will strengthen the profession and contribute to the overall growth of the state,” Nzekwe added.
