President of the Nigerian Institute of Architects NIA Enyi Ben-Eboh has described the Minister of Housing and urban Development Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa as a square peg in a square hole.
He made this known during a presentation at the “Housing Stakeholders Agenda Setting Dinner” of Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa in Abuja.
While congratulating the minister on his appointment, Ben-Eboh noted that the institute is very proud of the president Bola Ahmed Tinibu’s choice of a Housing Minister in person of Ahmed Dangiwa.
“I am happy today because one of our own is the minister of housing, it has always been our desire as professionals in the built environment that the minister who would head that ministry should come from someone in the profession.”
According to Enyi Ben-Eboh, the first assignment of the new Housing Minister should be that of addressing the issue of data in the country, which would foster ability to implement solutions to other challenges facing the sector.
“Housing comes a close second after food in man’s hierarchy of needs, and the issue of shelter has been in the front burner of our national discourse. Ranging from affordability, data with which to work with among others. Take example of the various figures that is supposed to represent our housing deficit data.”
While pledging the institute’s support, he highlighted some of the challenges faced in the Architecture profession, he charged the minister on the importance of involving professionals in development activities especially in the housing sector, and the need for team work to push the sector forward.
