Nigeria has been removed from the global aviation leasing market’s blacklist, granting airlines better access to leased aircraft.

United Nigeria Airlines’ COO, Osita Okonkwo, confirmed Nigeria’s removal, noting improved leasing opportunities for local airline operators.

Okonkwo stated that while Nigeria’s blacklist status is resolved, individual airlines must now negotiate directly with lessors.

Previously, Nigeria faced challenges leasing aircraft due to being rated a high-risk market by global aviation stakeholders.

Now considered lower risk, Nigerian airline operators expect more competitive pricing and favorable leasing conditions going forward.

Tunde Moshood, Special Adviser to the Aviation Ministry, emphasized aircraft leasing involves complex documentation and negotiation processes.

Nigeria’s participation in the Boeing Lessors Forum positively influenced Western perceptions, showcasing Nigeria’s renewed aviation market potential.

The aviation sector anticipates increased partnerships, such as Emirates collaborating with Air Peace, expanding Nigeria’s travel options.
