In a bid to address the housing crisis /challenges currently facing the Nigerian populace, the House of Representatives as part of its constitutional mandate has expressed its commitment to collaborate with the Nigerian Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) in addressing these challenges.
Chairman, House Committee on Science Research Institute, Hon. Olaide Akinremi made this known at the 10th edition of the 2021 NBRRI International Conference held in Abuja recently. According to the chairman, his committee, and by implication the Federal lawmakers are determined to partner with NBRRI to tackle obstacles affecting Nigeria’s quest of providing affordable housing for its citizenries.
While appreciating the leadership of NBRRI for their steadfastness, in organizing the yearly conference, the lawmaker, said that in the last years, NBRRI has continued to serve as a veritable agency that has helped chat the way forward for the construction sector which forms a bedrock of the country’s infrastructural growth.
His words “as a nation, we have vulgar infrastructural challenges ranging from housing unavailability gross shortfalls, and per capita growth deficit which are evident; and the present administration is working to improve the indices which are related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of reducing poverty and hunger, health, education, sanitation, and energy access”.
The lawmaker popularly referred to as “Jagaban” also revealed that his committee together with other federal lawmakers are currently working on finding lasting solutions to the hike in cement prices currently experienced in all parts of the country.
He further posited that the country was currently open to new investors coming into the country as part of its diversification strategy in the building sector.
Hon. Olaide, therefore, assured NBRRI of the House of Representative support at all times, especially when it becomes necessary to update the act establishing the Agency.
