The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has inducted 30 Nigerians below the age of 30 to undergo one-year practical training at the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy.

While launching the programme in Lagos during the weekend, the governor said inductees would also have the opportunity to undergo international mentoring in foreign policy at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy in Singapore.

Sanwo-Olu went on to say that the first 30 inductees were carefully chosen after a rigorous selection process from 3,313 applications received across the country.

Sanwo-Olu said the leadership academy would help to further his visions to institutionalise the process of talent development and leadership preparation in the state’s public sector, as well as immortalise the name of the former Governor of the state, the late Lateef Jakande.

Sanwo-Olu explained that the fellows would be spending the next year working full-time in the Lagos public service, learning firsthand leadership skills as the governor’s designated special assistants in MDAs.

He said, “We are living in a time when leadership matters more than ever before, in the private and public sectors.

“We must ensure that we are actively and deliberately growing the pool of young Nigerians who are able to meet the challenges of leadership in such a complex, complicated, and youthful nation as ours.

“The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy is our own effort to formalise and structure the process of talent development and leadership preparation, for the public sector.”
