About 200 houses have been submerged by flood in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Also affected by the flood were shops, schools and worship centres among others.
The local government was flooded on Sunday after torrential rains that rendered many residents homeless.
Governor Abdullahi Sule who visited the area has ordered for the immediate evacuation of the flood victims and the provision of relief materials.
In a press statement by his spokesman, Ibrahim Addra, the governor said, “My administration will take a second look at the channelisation project while hoping to seek the collaboration of the federal government in tackling the age-long ecological problems in this area.”
Chairman Nasarawa Local Government Area Mohammed Sani Ottos described the incident as the worst of its kind in the council area in the last 40 years.

The Emir of Nasarawa, who is a former Minister of Environment, Alhaji Ibrahim Usman Jibrin, blamed the residents’ noncompliance to building regulations as a factor to the flooding, and appealed against dumping refuse in waterways.
