A civil society group, Concerned Edo Youth, has asked the EFCC to investigate Kelly Okungbowa for naira abuse.

Okungbowa, a close ally of Governor Monday Okpebholo, is seen in a viral video spraying cash on dancers.

He serves as the Chairman of the Edo State Asset Recovery Committee and Coordinator of Public Safety Response Team.

The CBN Act of 2007 criminalizes naira abuse, with offenders facing six months imprisonment, a ₦50,000 fine, or both.

Authorities have enforced this law, jailing actress Omoseyin in 2024 and socialite Bobrisky for similar offenses.

The group’s president, Comrade Joseph Gbale, accused the government of selective enforcement of financial regulations.

“These people harass traders and motorists while engaging in reckless behavior behind closed doors,” Gbale stated.

The petition, submitted to EFCC’s Benin Zonal Office, demands Okungbowa’s immediate prosecution for violating financial laws.

This scandal adds to Governor Okpebholo’s troubles amid corruption cases, dwindling public support, and election disputes.

His administration also faces scrutiny following the suspension of the Public Safety Response Team over a child’s death.
