The Abia State government has initiated repair work on the Umuahia-Ikot Ekpene federal road which has been a subject of concern for both commuters and local authorities due to its deteriorating condition, which has not only inconvenienced travelers but also increased the risk of accidents.

The decision to commence the maintenance work was announced during a press briefing held by Kanu, a spokesperson for the state government. The briefing followed the executive council meeting, which was presided over by Governor Alex Otti in Umuahia, the state capital.

Accompanied by three of his colleagues, he explained that the intervention had a clear objective: to offer relief and assistance to commuters. He emphasized that this support was extended despite the fact that the road in question fell under federal government jurisdiction.

“In the same vein, the lit-up Abia project has covered 36 streets in Umuahia and extended to Aba- Owerri, Factory, MCC, Okigwe and Brass roads all in Aba,” he noted.
