Why Presidential Aspirants Must Give Housing a Priority In Their Manifestoes

It’s easy to take housing for granted. After all, it’s just a roof over our heads, right? Wrong. Housing is so much more than that. In fact, housing is essential for our health and well-being. Here’s why.

Housing is essential for our health and well-being
When we have stable housing:

we are more likely to be employed and do better in school
we can more fully participate in society
But when we don’t have stable housing, we can’t participate fully in our communities. That’s why it’s so important that everyone has access to homes that they can afford and suit their needs.

Over 20million Nigerians don’t have access to quality housing in Nigeria. Rather, they are living in unsuitable, inadequate or unaffordable homes and can’t afford an alternative.

Many Housing establishments like the FMBN, FHFL , NMRC,FGHLB,FHAexist— to help those in need get access to safe and affordable housing.

“it is a known fact that far too many people in Nigeria are struggling to find shelter and affordable housing that meets their needs. We need to come together, now more than ever, to build shelters for the homeless, support families in housing need, and deliver more homes for Nigerians”
— AIHS 2022 Declaration

We need to act now
We owe it to ourselves and to future generations to create a housing system that is affordable, stable, and sustainable. We need to come together as a community and work towards this common goal. We need to be proactive and create solutions that will benefit everyone.

We can no longer afford to wait. The time to act is now.

We all have a role to play
Making sure everyone in Nigeria has a place to call home is a collaborative effort, and we need your help. Whether you’re a housing professional or someone who wants to make a difference, there are many ways you can get involved.

Together, we can make sure that everyone has a place to call home.
