The Edo State Government has commenced the construction of an additional 700 housing units in its Emotan Garden Estate in  Benin, the state capital.

The Managing Director, Edo State Property Development Corporation (ESDPC), John Izedome, disclosed this during the handing over of the phase III site of the estate to four contractors handling the housing units.

He said the contractors were to deliver six types of houses which included 2 bedrooms semi-detached, 3 bedrooms semi-detached, 2 bedroom blocks of flats and 4 bedroom duplexes.

He said the Emotan Gardens was in line with Governor Godwin Obaseki’s vision of providing affordable housing for citizens of the state.

“Already 68 housing units have been built in phase 1 by Mixta Africa and handed over to the subscribers last year. 147 units are being developed in phase 2 by Edo State Property Development Corporation to further open up the estate.

“So today, we are partnering with four developers for phase 3. We have handed over the subsections of the estate to developers which include WTF Construction, Landsmith Construction, D’ Prince Builders and Ivy League Limited.

“The estate is on 70 hectares and is fenced around for security. We have Osiomo electricity and water is already there and would be reticulated to the whole estate, which is a modern and sustainable environment estate,” he further said.

According to him, “There would be 1,400 housing units in the estate layout. We already have over 200 and we are going to add between 600 and 700 to existing one.”

He said the four contractors were picked based on their credibility, capability and track record as well as the financial capability to carry out the project.

Also speaking, Dr. Nosa Omere, the Chief Executive, WTF Construction, said the company was to deliver 240 housing units under the Emotan Garden City project of the Edo government out of the 700 housing units.

Omere said the houses, which would be constructed in less than one year, would be built using the rapid build technology of the company.
