The Sokoto State Government has unveiled an ambitious development agenda, committing ₦69 billion to a series of strategic projects aimed at bolstering housing, agriculture, and infrastructure across the state.

The approvals were announced on Wednesday following the state’s 4th Executive Council Meeting, presided over by Governor Ahmed Aliyu. Addressing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Hon. Sambo Bello Danchadi, detailed the projects, emphasizing their significance for the state’s development.

A significant portion of the budget, ₦44.7 billion, is allocated for the acquisition of 500 luxury housing units in the proposed Sokoto City. These units, initially constructed by the federal government, are intended to alleviate the housing deficit and accommodate the state’s rapidly growing urban population.

To enhance agricultural productivity, the government has approved the procurement of 250 tractors and associated implements, valued at ₦22.1 billion. The funding will be shared between the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs (60%) and the Ministry of Agriculture (40%). Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Tukur Alkali, emphasized that this initiative aims to mechanize farming at the grassroots level, with tractors made available to farmers at subsidized rates.

An additional ₦2 billion is earmarked for infrastructural projects focused on public safety and the protection of critical assets. This includes the construction of a pedestrian bridge for pupils of Yakubu Muazu Model Primary School along Birnin Kebbi Road and the erection of perimeter fencing around four major water treatment plants in Gagi, Mana, Asare, Old Airport, and Tamaje communities.

These comprehensive projects underscore Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to driving sustainable development and inclusive growth in Sokoto State, addressing key sectors that impact the daily lives of residents.

The Department of Development Control of the Federal Capital Territory Administration has commenced the demolition of about 30 buildings obstructing the Right of Way of the Ring Road 3 corridor in Karsana District, Abuja. The exercise is being carried out following a directive issued by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during an inspection of ongoing road projects in the area on August 20. Wike ordered the immediate demolition of the structures after being informed that they were located within the corridor reserved for the Ring Road 3 interchange and other associated infrastructure under the Abuja Master Plan. The affected corridor forms part of the planned road infrastructure linking Karsana, Gwarinpa, Kubwa and the Airport Road axis. The demolition is aimed at clearing the Right of Way and allowing uninterrupted construction of the Ring Road 3 project.
