Oborevwori approves ₦78billion for construction of flyover bridges, road expansion

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the sum of ₦78 billion for the construction of three flyover bridges and road expansion in the Warri/Effurun megalopolis of Delta state.

The Delta state government in a statement on X (formerly Twitter) said Oborevwori has awarded the contract to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited for the construction of the bridges and road expansion.

It added that this was part of decisions reached at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Oborevwori on Tuesday in Asaba, the capital of Delta.

Briefing journalists at the end of the Exco meeting, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works, Engr Fred Edafiogho said approval of the contracts were aimed at solving the gridlock often experienced in the twin cities.

“Edafiogho said the contracts include the design and construction of flyover bridge at Enerhen junction to Marine Gate,” the statement read.

“The contracts also include the study, design and construction of road expansion and improvement works on the section of the DSC/NPA Expressway from Effurun roundabout to DSC roundabout including construction of a 3/4 Cloverleaf interchange at the existing Effurun Flyover Bridge as well as two pedestrian bridges.”

Others are the design and construction of flyover bridge at PTI junction and DSC roundabout along the Effurun/Patani, East-West highway, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area (LGA).

Meanwhile, Secretary to the Delta Government (SSG), Kingsley Emu, has said that the state’s steering committee on palliatives programme has concluded plans to reach out to the poor and vulnerable indigenes and residents.

He disclosed that the distribution of the palliatives would be through the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) wards structure.

Emu made the disclosure on Monday while addressing members of the steering committee while he also said that there were 500 distribution points as each of the 25 LGAs has 20 wards.

He added that the strategy was to ensure the vulnerable population in every nook and cranny of Delta state was reached.
