Khalil Suleiman Halilu, the newly appointed 32-year-old Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), has outlined an ambitious vision for the agency, focusing on developing homegrown technology solutions for Nigerians and Africans.

Under Halilu’s leadership, NASENI is shifting its role from solely a research-oriented institution to actively developing products that will benefit the people of Nigeria and the broader African continent. He expressed his determination to use NASENI’s research and development capabilities to make a tangible impact on the lives of everyday Nigerians.

Halilu emphasized the importance of tangible results, stating, “Nigerians should be expecting products.” He stressed that the agency’s extensive research efforts should lead to the creation of “made-in-Nigeria products” that can be used by average Nigerians and Africans.

The CEO outlined the initial steps of his plan, which include increasing local production and translating research outcomes into practical solutions. He aims to build upon these steps to drive innovation and product development.

Halilu’s appointment, made by President Bola Tinubu, has been praised by Nigerians. With a background in establishing various firms and a wealth of entrepreneurial experience, including ShapShap Technologies, Environmental Services and Agro-Allied Ltd, MACE Nigeria LTD, KSH Construction & Design LTD, and ZCET Global Meter Services Ltd, Halilu is well-equipped for his role. He holds academic qualifications in Business Administration and International Business from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom.

As the youngest CEO to lead NASENI, Halilu’s tenure is expected to last an initial term of five years, during which he aims to drive local product development and innovation. His appointment is anticipated to bring meaningful reforms to NASENI and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s technology and engineering sectors.
