The Lagos State Government has initiated disciplinary action against a staff member of the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) for allegedly using a personal bank account to receive payments from customers.
The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday after the allegations surfaced online.
The issue came to light when an X user identified as @Bhadmoz (TrueBlue) accused LASAA of allowing payments for signage services to be made into a private account. The user also claimed that customers were being issued receipts showing lower amounts than what they had paid.
Tagging Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other government officials, the post read:
“#jidesanwoolu #followlasg why is LASAA using this attached account to issue payment to customers? They’ll issue a payment of ₦45,000, and after payment, you get a receipt of ₦7,100. We must call out criminal acts.”
The post also contained the alleged account details, identifying the account holder as Olukayode John Adetifa, linked to an Opay account.
Reacting to the claims, Wahab confirmed that the individual named in the post is indeed an employee of LASAA and has been summoned to the agency’s headquarters for immediate disciplinary proceedings.
“My attention has been drawn to a post alleging improper transaction practices involving a staff member of an agency under our ministry.
I can confirm that the individual in question has been identified and is indeed on the staff list of the agency. I have directed that the officer report to the head office tomorrow for immediate disciplinary proceedings,” he stated.
In a follow-up statement, Wahab reaffirmed the state government’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and unethical conduct within the public service.
“Let this be a clear warning to any public servant engaging in unethical practices the Lagos State Government has zero tolerance for misconduct.
We remain committed to transparency and accountability at all levels.
We also appreciate the vigilant citizen who brought this issue to our attention; public participation is vital in our collective pursuit of good governance,” he said.
