The Lagos State Government has introduced the Certified Accreditors Programme (CAP), a new initiative designed to engage residents in monitoring building projects across their neighbourhoods and reporting activities to the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and other oversight authorities.
Speaking during a media briefing on the recently announced 70 per cent stage-certification fee required for obtaining a building planning permit, the Special Adviser to the Governor on e-GIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Abiodun Babatunde, disclosed that CAP officials have already begun operations. He further revealed that LASBCA will suspend direct stage certification for six months, during which accredited CAP agents will assume responsibility for the process.
Babatunde explained that the measure aligns with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda aimed at transforming Lagos into a modern, globally competitive city. He added that LASBCA will continue surveillance and enforcement duties, noting that manpower constraints necessitated the temporary transfer of stage-certification responsibilities to accredited community representatives.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service (VIS) has concluded a three-day leadership and capacity-building workshop for senior officers and zonal heads, designed to deepen professional conduct, empathy, and public confidence in the agency.
According to a statement issued by the VIS Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Bolanle Ogunlola, the programme, themed “Behind the VIO Badge: Transforming Perceptions, Building Trust,” was organised in partnership with the Civility Institute of Nigeria. The training focused on contemporary leadership strategies, emotional intelligence, and ethical communication.
Director of VIS in Lagos, Akin-George Fashola, described the initiative as a crucial component of the agency’s ongoing reform efforts. He stressed that the training reinforces the service’s commitment to professionalism and courteous engagement with the public.
