Tunde Omosebi, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential aspirant in the 2023 elections, has been evicted from his Abuja residence following a protracted legal battle over unpaid rent and breach of a lease agreement.

The eviction occurred on Friday, November 15, when court officials, accompanied by police officers, enforced a judgment to reclaim the property located in a highbrow area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The landlord, who opted to remain anonymous, stated that Omosebi’s tenancy expired over four years ago. Despite repeated attempts to settle the matter amicably, the landlord said Omosebi neither paid the rent nor vacated the premises.

“My patience ran out after years of unpaid rent and a refusal to leave the property. We tried resolving the issue amicably, but after several attempts, legal action became the only option,” the landlord explained.

The landlord added that the tenancy was for a fixed term, but Omosebi’s prolonged stay constituted a breach of the lease agreement.

In June 2022, Omosebi acknowledged the landlord’s concerns in a letter in which he expressed an intention to vacate the property due to “irreconcilable differences” over the landlord’s alleged breach of agreement.

“Due to irreconcilable differences on your breach of agreements, we opt out of renewing our lease. This letter serves as notice to vacate your property within the allowable period,” Omosebi wrote in the letter.

However, despite this formal notice, Omosebi remained in the property, forcing the landlord to seek legal recourse.

During court proceedings, the landlord alleged that Omosebi claimed ownership of the property but failed to appear in court to substantiate his claim. The court ultimately ruled in the landlord’s favor, paving the way for the eviction order.

This development comes as a cautionary tale on the importance of honoring lease agreements and upholding legal obligations in tenancy arrangements.
