On Friday, severe flooding at the University of Ibadan wreaked havoc, destroying books, food supplies, and other valuables worth millions of naira.

The flood, which submerged parts of the university, affected several student hostels, with the worst hit being Awo Hostel, where about 16 rooms on the underground floor were completely inundated.

According to a student who requested anonymity, the flood left students’ items, including documents, foodstuffs, and other essential materials, floating in the water.

Many students, some of whom were away for exams, returned to find their rooms submerged and their property destroyed.

“The flood took over students’ rooms, toilets, kitchens, and even the entrances to the hostel,” said another source, adding that “everything my friend had, even those inside her cupboard, were completely ruined.”
