A significant fire incident on Friday, May 16, severely damaged a commercial building housing the well-known Cue Bar in Abuja’s bustling Wuse 2 district.

The blaze reportedly ignited mid-morning around 10:50 a.m., engulfing the structure situated directly opposite Zenith Bank along Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent—one of the capital city’s busiest commercial arteries.

Emergency responders from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Fire Service, mobilized swiftly following a distress call received by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), arrived at the scene to contain the fire.

In a statement issued by NEMA, the agency confirmed that early findings indicate the fire began within a spa facility inside the building before rapidly spreading to nearby businesses. The coordinated response ensured the flames were extinguished before the fire could consume the entire complex.

While no fatalities were reported, one individual sustained a fractured limb and has been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

NEMA noted that after the blaze was brought under control, the property was officially turned over to the Maitama Division of the Nigeria Police Force for continued security and investigation into the cause of the incident.

Officials have yet to release details on the extent of structural damage or the estimated financial loss incurred. Authorities are expected to conduct a full assessment in the coming days.
