To ease travel for the upcoming festive season, the Federal Government, through the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has launched an extensive road repair program aimed at improving traffic flow on key highways across the country.

Known as “Operation Connect to Your Destination” Phase 2, the initiative was officially flagged off in Kano State.

FERMA’s Managing Director, Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, shared the project’s ambitious targets. By the end of the operation, the agency plans to patch 18,850 square meters of road surface, rehabilitate over 12,000 failed sections, apply 2,700 square meters of overlay, and make 653 kilometers of roadway motorable.

“Operation Connect to Your Destination is intended to enhance travel times and reduce traffic congestion as we approach the festive season,” Agbasi explained. “We recognize that traffic between northern and southern regions spikes during this period. This program will help alleviate bottlenecks along key routes for smoother movement.”

The agency has strategically mapped out traffic-prone areas, prioritizing them for maintenance to ensure a maximum positive impact on road users. Agbasi added that the project is expected to create over 12,000 jobs, boosting economic activity in the process.

Head of FERMA’s Direct Labour Department, Engr. Sani Abdulkadir, stated that the roadworks are on track for completion by mid-December to avoid delays during the yuletide period.
