Enugu State governor, Peter Mbah has issued an executive order delineating and designating parts of the state as urban areas.

The executive order tagged Land Use Regulation 2025 and Executive Order No. 1, 2025, designated adjourning local governments around Enugu such as Nkanu West, Nkanu East, and Nsukka as urban areas.

“Under this Executive Order, the entire Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Udi, Nkanu West, Nkanu East, and Nsukka LGAs are now classified as urban areas. Additionally, specific parts of Aninri, Awgu, Ezeagu, Igbo-Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Isi-Uzo, Oji-River, Udenu, and Uzo-Uwani LGAs have been designated as urban areas. According to the statement, the new executive order will further promote accountability and transparency in land administration within the state as well as eliminate hidden land charges within the state.

“This milestone aligns with our vision to make land transactions transparent, efficient, and corruption-free. It complements the Enugu State Geographic Information System (ENGIS), which we launched recently to streamline applications for land titles and administrative processes.

“With this regulation, there shall be no more hidden charges in land transactions. Also, double allocations and land grabbing are a thing of the past. There will be clear timelines and fees for all land-related applications. Residents in newly designated urban areas can now apply for Certificates of Occupancy, enhancing their property rights.

In the same vein, Landmark Africa Group has finalised a major agreement with the Enugu State Government to take over the 150-hectare Nike Lake Resort on a 35-year lease. Nike Lake Resort situated on the banks of Nike Lake is a 3-star hotel and resort owned by the state government.

The transformative partnership will reposition the iconic resort as a world-class tourism and leisure destination, reflecting the state’s vision for sustainable economic growth and enhanced global recognition.

In resolving the perennial water scarcity within Enugu Metropolis, the state government in December 2024 signed a $100 million agreement with Austrian firm Wande Nexus to overhaul its water infrastructure, aiming to deliver sustainable and equitable access across the state.

In his remarks during the signing of the agreement, the state governor opined that the partnership with Wande Nexus will solve the state’s downstream water issues, ensuring that every home has access to clean, reliable water.
