The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has returned N19 million, a three-bedroom semi-detached duplex, a Lexus E350 saloon car, an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and a Samsung A31 phone to Cheryldene Cook, an American woman who was defrauded by a Nigerian man, Aisosa Kelvin Ohue, alias Frederick Leonard.

Ohue was convicted of a three-count charge of obtaining money on pretense in January 2023. He had pretended to be a famous actor, Frederick Leonard, and conned Cook into believing that he was in love with her and planning to marry her.

The property and other items were handed over to Cook by the EFCC in Abuja on Wednesday. She was accompanied by her lawyer, Dr. Mike Nwosu. Cook expressed her appreciation to the EFCC for recovering her property.

Justice C.E. Nwecheonwu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Kuje, had ordered the forfeiture of the property after Ohue was convicted.

The EFCC said it would continue to work to ensure that victims of fraud are reunited with their stolen property.
