Ajaokuta: Steel plant solution to frequent building collapse – Ohere

Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, Sadiku Abubakar Ohere, on Thursday, lamented the frequent building collapse in Nigeria.

He said the completion of Ajaokuta Iron and Steel is the solution to building collapse as the quality of steel products, especially rods, could withstand the strength of pillars and decking castings.

The Lawmaker stated at an interactive session with Senate Press Corps after plenary on Thursday in Abuja, stressing that the completion of the steel project would make available to builders, quality and affordable iron and steel for all categories of buildings.

Ohere noted that Ajaokuta Steel plant when completed, will make building materials affordable particularly rods and other steel materials, so that builders will not opt for inferior materials that will cause building collapse.

He added that the steel project would also serve as catalyst for industrialisation of the country if completed and made to operate optimally, while he expressed optimism that President Bola Tinubu will give attention before he clocks 100 days in office.

“Already, 38 out of the 46 production units of the project have been completed, remaining just eight units.

“It is a worthy project that will facilitate development of the country across the various sectors and most importantly, serve as panacea for the incessant problem of building collapse in the country through the production of quality and affordable iron and steel builders and construction firms.

He disclosed that FG’s move to complete the project would be backed by a piece of legislation.
