Provision of affordable and decent housing is not only a fundamental human need but also a basic right for everyone in the country, which is the underlying factor government, corporate organisations and individuals at different times have adopted intervention policies and programmes to address the housing deficit in Nigeria.
Based on this fulcrum, on Friday 10 December 2021, Abuja will be agog with the gathering of the cream of the society, as well as the who- is- who in the world of housing, and leading development experts for the African Housing International Awards event.
This event will mark a new dimension in the housing sector, as it will be unveiling the prestigious Hall of fame Induction for the first time, and this will now become an integral part of African Housing International Awards, according to Festus Adebayo Executive Director , Housing DevelopmentAdvocacy Network , the convener of the Abuja international Housing show

Revealing this to African Housing News, he said the inaugural Hall of Fame induction award has set criteria for deserving awardees. Top among of such are: number of affordable houses delivered, number of beneficiaries, prices and integrity of the promoter. According to Adebayo “this is our own way of immortalizing our heroes who have contributed selflessly in the provision of affordable and decent houses since independence till date’’

Furthermore he said ‘’it is also a good way to encourage and inspire our leaders and practitioners to do more in the area of provision of affordable and decent houses for the poor in line with target eleven of the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) of the United Nations which Nigeria is a signatory to”

The initiative was borne out of the 15th Abuja International Housing Show (AIHS), where there was an assemblage of international investors, practitioners , public and private key stakeholders in the country as well as four ministers from Nigeria and other countries.

AIHS owns the most informative and educative’ Housing Development Programme’ in Africa which is being aired on AIT, TVC, Wee FM 106.3. And it is being supported by World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC) and Africa Development Bank.

As a leading advocacy organisation in delivery of affordable housing in Nigeria, we looking for the stand-out personnel and corporate entities that have through their deliberate effort and policies have been able to deliver a sizeable number of affordable houses to the populace especially the low and middle income earners.
