The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured residents that between eight and 10 major road projects across the territory will be completed and inaugurated before the end of the year.
Wike gave the assurance on Monday during an inspection tour of ongoing road projects across the Federal Capital Territory, reiterating the FCT Administration’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress of work on the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road and the Bwari–Kubwa Road projects, describing the pace of construction as encouraging.
Governance Will Continue Until End of Tinubu’s Tenure
Responding to questions on whether the political calendar could affect the pace of project execution, Wike dismissed such concerns, insisting that governance remains a continuous responsibility under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
“Has the tenure of Mr President ended? Certainly not. His first tenure will be ending precisely May 29, 2027. So, if that is the case, it means that the work has also not ended,” he said.
The minister stressed that the administration remains focused on fulfilling its promises to residents through the timely delivery of infrastructure projects.
Apo–Karshi Road Back on Track
Speaking on the Apo–Karshi Road, Wike recalled that the project was initially awarded in 2010 but suffered years of delays due to poor performance by the former contractor.
He explained that the contract was eventually terminated and re-awarded to a new construction company, leading to significant progress on the project.
According to the minister, the renewed pace of work demonstrates the administration’s determination to complete abandoned infrastructure projects across the FCT.
Contractors Urged to Meet Deadlines
During the inspection of the Bwari–Kubwa Road corridor, Wike acknowledged the challenging terrain facing contractors but warned against any attempt to extend agreed completion timelines.
He assured contractors that the FCT Administration would continue to release funds promptly to ensure uninterrupted work and enable the projects to be completed before the peak of the rainy season.
The minister reiterated that the target remains to complete between eight and 10 strategic road projects before the end of the year.
He added that timely funding would enable contractors to maximise the current favourable weather conditions and deliver quality road infrastructure that will improve transportation and connectivity across the Federal Capital Territory.
