President Bola Tinubu on Monday formally inaugurated Dr. Saviour Enyiekere as Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), along with twelve commissioners and two permanent secretaries, at a high-level event held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The ceremony was part of an extended Federal Executive Council (FEC) session, convened at the Council Chambers. The president administered the oath of office to the new appointees, signaling a renewed phase in the oversight and administrative operations of the legislative arm.
Dr. Enyiekere, a seasoned environmental expert and former deputy chief of staff to the Senate President, will head the NASC for a renewable term of five years. Alongside him, twelve commissioners representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones were sworn in, reflecting a diverse and inclusive structure.
The newly sworn-in commissioners of the National Assembly Service Commission were carefully selected to represent Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, ensuring regional balance and inclusivity in the commission’s leadership. From the Northwest, Suleiman Othman Hunkuyi and Hon. Yusuf A. Yusuf Tabuka were appointed. The Northeast is represented by Aminu Ibrahim Malle and Alhaji Lawan Maina Mahmud. Mark Hanmation Tersoo and Salihu Umar Agboola Balogun were sworn in from the Northcentral zone. Representing the Southwest are Hon. Taiwo Olukemi Oluga and Hon. Afeez Ipeza-Balogun. The Southeast delegation includes Hon. Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu and Festus Ifesinachi Odii, while Patrick A. Giwa and Mrs. Mary Ekpenyong were appointed from the Southsouth region.
In addition, President Tinubu appointed two federal permanent secretaries: Mr. Rafiu Olarinre Adeladan from Oyo State and Dr. Muktar Mohammed from Jigawa State. Both were sworn in as part of the day’s formalities.
The event, coordinated by Biodun Oladunjoye, director of media at the State House, was attended by top-ranking government officials. Dignitaries included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.
Among the ministers in attendance were Finance Minister Wale Edun, Economic Planning Minister Atiku Bagudu, and Information Minister Mohammed Idris.
A moment of silence was observed during the council meeting to honor the late Dubem Onyia, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, who passed away on March 10, 2025.
