President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians to offer fervent prayers for the nation’s security forces and embrace unity and compassion during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

Speaking to journalists shortly after observing the Eid prayers at the Dodan Barracks Eid Ground in Lagos, the President highlighted the significance of the season, urging citizens to reflect on the values of sacrifice, kindness, and selflessness.

“We must not forget our troops on the frontlines, those confronting terrorism and banditry daily,” Tinubu said. “Their sacrifices are enormous. Let us remember them in our prayers and support efforts to keep our nation safe.”

The President also encouraged Nigerians to support one another and demonstrate love, especially to the vulnerable. “This season reminds us of our shared humanity. We must rise above divisions, care for our neighbours, and show generosity,” he added.

The Eid sermon, delivered by the Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sheikh Suleiman Abu-Nola, reinforced the message of sacrifice, calling on Muslims to emulate the dedication of Prophet Ibrahim. “True sacrifice involves giving up what we cherish for the greater good,” the Imam noted. “We must serve with sincerity, live peacefully, and uplift the weak.”

He urged Nigerians to transcend ethnic boundaries and prioritize national unity. “Whether Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa, we are one people. Our strength lies in togetherness,” he said.

Present at the Eid prayers were high-profile government officials and dignitaries including the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola; Minister of State for Defence, Bello Muhammed Matawalle; and Deputy Governor of Lagos, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.

Also in attendance were former Lagos Governor Babatunde Fashola, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, and prominent businessmen Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu, and Wale Tinubu.

The celebration was marked by calls for peace, community service, and a collective commitment to national progress.
