In a significant move towards urban modernization, the Yobe State Government has initiated the construction of a flyover and underpass at the main roundabout in Damaturu, the state capital.

This ₦22.3 billion project, awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited, is slated for completion within 12 months and aims to alleviate traffic congestion, enhance safety, and stimulate economic growth in the region .

The project has garnered widespread commendation from residents across Yobe State. During a live phone-in program on Yobe Radio (YBC), callers from Damaturu and neighboring areas expressed their support, highlighting the government’s commitment to fulfilling its campaign promises on infrastructure development .

Abdullahi Mai Gidan Wanka, a caller from Damaturu, emphasized the necessity of such infrastructure, stating, “Damaturu, being the state capital, deserves better infrastructure like the flyover and underpass to manage the increasing number of people and vehicles, reducing congestion and accidents.”

Another resident, Mallam Mustapha, noted the potential economic benefits, saying, “The flyover and underpass will stimulate growth in surrounding areas by improving access, making them attractive for business and residential development.”

Mamman Sani, also from Damaturu, appreciated the project’s comprehensive approach, mentioning, “We are thrilled that the project includes the expansion of drainages, which will help address the annual flood disasters in the town.”

Governor Mai Mala Buni, while presenting the 2025 budget to the State House of Assembly, reiterated the government’s dedication to infrastructure, stating, “The widespread use of road projects is intended to give a facelift and accessibility to our communities. Government is committed to the completion of the seventeen ongoing road projects and to embark on eleven new ones.”

The commencement of the Damaturu flyover and underpass project marks a pivotal step in Yobe State’s journey towards urban modernization, reflecting the administration’s resolve to enhance the quality of life for its citizens through strategic infrastructure development.
