The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Housing and Habitant, Hon Mustapha Mustapha Dawaki, Wednesday, called on the civil servants to key into the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) mass housing project.

Dawaki, who led other members of the committee on an oversight visit to the FHA’s 764-unit of houses in Zuba in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), appealed to them to take the advantage of the project to become landlords.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work and quality of job done on the site, saying that the buildings are affordable to the civil servants and private individuals.

The chairman of the committee said: “We are very impressed with the kind of the structures we are seeing here. Among our colleagues here, we have engineers, structural engineers, architects, and some are builders. I am not an engineer, I am an accountant but from their comments, there is no cause of alarm.

“These buildings have integrity; they are buildings that are affordable to the civil servants, and also to the people in the non-formal sector. These categories of people can come and subscribe to it.

“This building is affordable to the persons that want to buy depending on their income. The subscribers can go for a one-bed room, if they are bachelors, but if married, they can go for two-bed rooms or three-bed rooms.

“We believe that with the kind of work we have seen here, we have to commend the Federal Housing Authority for the job well done, and I believe the area we observed like sight and services need to be worked on.

“My advice for the Nigerians, especially for the civil servants that have worked for this country for many years, is that they should also be able to get shelter on their heads.

“This is the kind of the opportunity to get the house of their own because we have the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria. If you are a contributor of the national housing fund, you can acquire this house and you can get mortgage from the bank, which is not more than N15million and subscribe to this house.

“There are two and three-bed rooms that are affordable to the civil servants. Also, the people from the non-formal sector can also buy these houses. This is the kind of the opportunity that is available to Nigerians’’.
