Protesters obstructed the inward section of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos to express anger over the demolition of houses in Oworonshoki by the state government.
The demonstration, which kicked off at daybreak, led to severe traffic congestion as motorists and commuters were forced to seek alternative routes into the mainland. According to residents, the exercise was carried out without sufficient notice or compensation, rendering many families homeless.
The demolitions, which began on Saturday morning, were executed by a joint enforcement team targeting structures said to be illegally erected along the Lekki and Iyana Oworonshoki waterfronts.
During the protest, aggrieved residents confronted the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, insisting that they would not vacate the bridge until demolition machinery was removed from the community.
Security personnel were later mobilized to disperse the crowd and restore order, after which the affected lane of the bridge was reopened to traffic.
