A Nigerian pilgrim, Hajiya Zainab from Plateau State, has been praised for her honesty after returning $5,000 approximately ₦8.2 million that she found at Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to its rightful owner, a Russian pilgrim.
The Plateau State Pilgrims Board, led by Daiyabu Dauda, along with the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), commended Hajiya Zainab for her integrity and kindness.
“She displayed remarkable honesty by returning the money she found to its owner. Such an act of kindness is truly commendable,” Dauda said in a statement.
In related news, NAHCON revealed it is currently in discussions with Saudi authorities to reopen visa processing for Nigerian pilgrims hoping to perform Hajj this year.
Fatima Usara, NAHCON’s Assistant Director of Information, expressed optimism about the outcome of the talks.
“We remain hopeful that visa processing will resume soon. Once that happens, the commission will make arrangements to transport the registered pilgrims for Hajj,” she said.
Some NAHCON staff have also been placed on standby, ready to act immediately should the visa window reopen.
