According to sources who spoke with TheCable, the bandits entered through a section of the facility that was not fenced in.

“It was in the middle of the night, and the personnel who were supposed to be monitoring the CCTV had slept off,” another source told TheCable.

“They had the option of putting everyone on high alert and averting the attack.”

TheCable has learned that some soldiers will face court martial for failing to secure the area.

In a statement, the academy’s spokesperson, Bashir Muhd Jajira, also explained how the institution’s security architecture was compromised.

“Unknown gunmen gained access to the Academy’s residential area in Afaka early this morning, compromising the security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy. We lost two personnel and one was kidnapped during the unfortunate incident,” he said.

“In the Academy, the NDA community and Cadets are safe. We assure the public that the unknown gunmen will be apprehended soon, and the kidnapped personnel will be rescued.”
