The National Assembly has approved a ₦1.81 trillion budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the 2025 fiscal year. The House of Representatives passed the appropriation bill during a plenary session presided over by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, following President Bola Tinubu’s submission of the proposal on May 14, 2025.

The Senate also gave its concurrence, marking a significant legislative milestone. the initial ₦1.78 trillion proposal, with lawmakers augmenting the figure by ₦30 billion to address critical infrastructure and service delivery needs in the capital.

A substantial portion of the budget, ₦1.31 trillion or 72.3%, is allocated for capital projects. These include the development and rehabilitation of roads and bridges across Abuja’s city center and satellite towns. Key projects encompass the dualization of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, construction of the Pai-Gomani road in Kwali Area Council, and upgrades to the Ushafa War College road.

The remaining ₦502.38 billion covers recurrent expenditures, with ₦150.35 billion for personnel costs and ₦352.03 billion for overheads.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike emphasized that the budget aims to enhance infrastructure, improve service delivery, and address the growing needs of Abuja’s residents. During budget defense sessions, he highlighted ongoing efforts to bolster healthcare services, including the acquisition of modern diagnostic equipment, and called for coordinated national interventions to tackle security challenges in the territory.
