Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has inaugurated the construction of a 400-unit housing estate aimed at improving the welfare of civil servants in the state.
The foundation-laying ceremony took place on Thursday at Zarwan Nkie Whie community in Miango District, Bassa Local Government Area. The project is being executed through a partnership between the Plateau State Government and the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
Mutfwang disclosed that the government had invested over ₦346 million to secure 38.3 hectares of land for the estate. According to him, the initiative is part of his administration’s commitment to restoring dignity and providing stability for workers.
“Housing for our workers is not a privilege but a right. Too many of our civil servants spend most of their income on rent, leaving little for their families. With this project, we are creating homes, communities and legacies that will outlive us,” the governor stated.
He added that the project reflects his administration’s pledge to rebuild trust and reposition the state’s civil service as a model of excellence.
The Plateau Head of Service, Stephen Gordons, praised the governor for completing the payment for the land, noting that previous administrations had been unable to finalize the acquisition.
Similarly, the state NLC Chairman, Eugene Manji, commended the initiative, describing it as a “giant step” that will make housing more accessible and affordable for workers.
The groundbreaking marks a major milestone in the state government’s effort to address the long-standing housing deficit facing civil servants in Plateau.
