Legislator tackles Abia government over a N27.4 billion World Bank project.
A member representing Aba South state constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Obinna Ichita, has held the state government accountable for a World Bank Intervention in infrastructure development.
Ichita stated this when he addressed local government and ward chairmen of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the state capital, Umuahia, saying the state is under bondage of governance.
The leader of the party in the state said the call had become necessary “as there are nothing on ground to suggest that such a humongous amount of money was spent on infrastructure in the commercial city.
The lawmaker also bemoaned the fate of traders in Abia Ohuru, Aba whose shops were demolished by the government for nearly a year now without any indication of rebuilding them while they suffer their fate.
His words, “When it was pulling down the shops, we shouted against it, but they suppressed our voices, and promised to get the market ready in six months’ time but it’s almost one year down the line.”
He accused the Peoples Democratic Party government of abandoning the health-care sector, a development, he said, posed existential threat to the residents and the future of the state
“The number of mortuaries and funeral homes in the state is more than the hospitals. Go and check, from Osisioma to Umuahia the number of mortuaries and coffin markers will no doubt surprise you.”
The leader urged Ndigbo to embrace the APGA as their regional party to recover their lost political grounds and renegotiate power with other geo-opolitical zones and regions.
“With what is already happening in Anambra State under Gov Chukwuma Soludo, we need technocrats to take over the states in the South East to rebuild the economy like the late Dr Michael Okpara era.”
