The Lagos State Government has announced plans to deliver a total of 14,022 housing units by the first quarter of 2026, as part of its ongoing efforts to address the state’s housing deficit. This initiative was disclosed by the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, during a ministerial press briefing marking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second year in office.
Since 2019, the administration has completed 9,970 housing units, comprising 3,994 units funded directly by the government and 5,976 units delivered through public-private partnerships (PPPs). These projects span across the five administrative divisions of Lagos State, including the recently commissioned Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Estate (Cluster 1), which added 270 two-bedroom apartments to the housing stock.
Currently, five major housing schemes are underway, expected to contribute an additional 4,052 units upon completion including Egan-Igando Mixed Housing Scheme (Clusters II & III): 576 units in Igando-Ikotun LCDA, projected for completion in Q1 2026.
LagosHOMS Sangotedo Phase 2: 528 units in Eti-Osa East LCDA, expected by Q3 2025, Epe Housing Scheme: 112 units in Itamarun, Epe LGA, slated for Q4 2025, LagosHOMS Ajara: 420 units in Badagry LGA, anticipated by Q2 2025, LagosHOMS Ibeshe Phase 2: 192 units in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, due by Q3 2025.
In addition to these, the Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC) has completed 12 housing projects, delivering 710 units, and is currently developing 25 projects expected to yield 2,415 units.
To enhance affordability, the Lagos State Mortgage Board has implemented a Rent-to-Own policy, benefiting over 20,000 residents. This initiative aims to ease access to housing for low- and medium-income earners, addressing challenges such as high construction costs and limited financing options.
Commissioner Akinderu-Fatai emphasized the administration’s commitment to providing affordable housing solutions, recognizing the sector as a vital component of economic development and social stability.
