The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to curb illegal estate developments along the Epe corridor of the state.

Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, made this known in a statement released on Saturday in Lagos.

Olumide disclosed that he personally led a special joint exercise to the axis on Thursday and Friday, following a directive from the state executive council.

The exercise covered areas such as Alaro City, Okorisan, Igbodu, Molajoye, Shaala, Ketu, and Epe.

Notices were served on estate developments including Patriot Bay Estate, Smart City Estate, the Legend and Hilton Royal Garden, Greenland Estate, Legacy City, Isinmi Lagos, Dominion City, Topview Estate, and Ibi Alafia, among others.

Erring estate developers were urged to visit relevant authorities to perfect their documents before proceeding with any development. Olumide emphasized that developers must obtain layout approval, planning permit, and fencing permit as required by law.

Layout approval ensures proper arrangement of the estate to accommodate appropriate services and infrastructure, while planning permit addresses planning requirements on individual plots in the estate.

The commissioner warned property investors to be cautious and avoid investing in estates without proper approval to avoid government sanctions.

The crackdown on illegal estate developments is part of efforts to achieve an organized, livable, and sustainable built environment in Lagos State.
