Residents of Ipokia in Ogun State have raised concerns over the deteriorating condition of the ICT building at the Community Secondary School. Once a hub for digital learning, the facility has fallen into disrepair, with reports of damaged ceilings, broken windows, and missing solar panels.
Former student Rotimi Olawin highlighted that the computers initially provided are no longer present, and the building now serves as a habitat for reptiles .
The ICT center was established approximately 15 years ago through the efforts of then-House of Representatives member Abiodun Akinlade. However, a lack of maintenance has led to its current state of neglect. Akinlade, who now represents the Egbado South/Ipokia constituency in the 10th National Assembly , has recently responded to the community’s concerns. According to Olawin, Akinlade reached out and promised to send delegates to assess the situation next week .
This development follows a broader pattern of infrastructural challenges in the Ipokia Local Government Area. The Ogun State House of Assembly has urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to allocate funds for the rehabilitation and operational take-off of the abandoned Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia . Additionally, the state government has ordered integrity tests on a collapsed building at Mayigi Community Comprehensive School in Ilase, Ipokia, following a rainstorm that resulted in casualties .
These issues underscore the need for sustained investment and maintenance in educational infrastructure to ensure the safety and well-being of students in the region.
