In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, the government said:

Bashir Nura Alkali was reported by the minister, Sadiya Umar Farouq, in a statement issued by the ministry’s Director of Press, Rhoda Iliya, as expressing concern over the constant fire events across the country.

She stated that the recent fire in Abuja’s market would be looked into.

Firefighting equipment should be positioned in businesses and strategic locations of marketplaces, according to Farouq.
To avoid a fire calamity, she also advised against cooking and incorrect handling of electrical appliances in markets.

Farouq expressed his condolences to the shop owners of the popular Karimo market in a suburb of the Federal Capital Territory, which was destroyed by fire.

Remember that the fire that engulfed many establishments in the early hours of Thursday destroyed merchandise worth millions of Naira.

“The minister is concerned about the numerous fire disasters in markets across the country and has urged shop owners and market officials to be fire-aware in order to protect people and property.”

“She recommended that firefighting equipment be deployed in stores and at key locations throughout the marketplaces,” she said. To avoid a fire calamity, she also advised avoiding cooking and incorrect handling of electrical appliances in marketplaces,” according to the statement.

“Farouq praised the combined efforts of government agencies, companies, and citizens who brought the fire under control,” it stated.

“She stated that the fire’s cause will be probed by the appropriate government agency.”
