The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Baba, has asked the Zone 2 Police Command to withdraw a suit filed at the High Court of Lagos against the Managing Director, Masters Reality International Concepts Limited, Lai Omotola, as the documents used in filing the case were forged.

This was contained in a certified true copy from the IGP’s office forwarded to Omotola, who demanded a report of the police investigation into the case.

Journalists also obtained an electronic copy of the CTC, which was confirmed by the force headquarters as authentic.

Recall that the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo, was accused of using forged documents to file criminal charges against Omotola.

Omotola was tagged a land grabber as his property on Iju Road, in the Agege area of the state, was demolished by government officials.

The managing director said he discovered that the Office of the Attorney General “colluded with one CSP Akinjide Alabi of Zone 2 Police Command to forge my statement in order to develop a charge against me.”

However, Onigbanjo, who denied the claim, said Omotola was attempting to blackmail him to escape charges.

The CTC, which was signed by the Head, IG Monitoring Unit, Force HQ, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Musa, and dated May 31, 2022, stated that Zone 2 Police Command did a shoddy investigation into the case.

The document read, “Given the circumstances surrounding this case and findings, it is obvious that Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, conducted a shoddy and lopsided investigation of the case initially reported by the complainant (Omotola) against CSP Yinka Egbeyemi and Mr Owolabi Arole, the Head of the Lagos State Taskforce on Land Grabbing, who supervised the demolishing of the structures erected by the complainant and made a newspaper publication to that effect on Monday, January 27, 2020.

“The suspect’s refusal to report at Zone 2 to respond to the allegations reported by the complainant and the discontinuing of investigation of the case by the police to a logical conclusion without reasonable cause suggests that the investigation was inconclusive.”
