Staff and management of the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development joined the nation in mourning the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, offering tributes and observing the official seven-day mourning period.

Led by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Shuaib Belgore, the Ministry’s personnel gathered on Monday to sign a condolence register opened in line with a presidential directive to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to honor the late leader.

Dr. Belgore, reflecting on the former president’s legacy, described Buhari as “an upright, conscientious, and incorruptible man” whose leadership style was deeply rooted in patriotism. He noted that Buhari took charge at a time when national morale was low and worked to restore hope and confidence across the country.

“President Buhari appointed people to serve and charged them to deliver, and in many cases, they did,” Belgore wrote in his message, recalling his own appointment as Permanent Secretary in August 2020 under Buhari’s administration.

Throughout the Ministry, staff echoed similar sentiments in their tributes, highlighting the late president’s emphasis on discipline, integrity, and public service.

As part of the official mourning observance, national flags at the Ministry’s premises were flown at half-mast throughout the week, which concluded today.

Prayers were also offered for the repose of the late president’s soul, with calls for divine mercy and comfort for his family.

President Buhari was laid to rest last week in his hometown, Daura, amid tributes from across the country and beyond.
