Aminu Masari, the governor of Katsina state, has urged FMBN management to ensure that ongoing projects to give public employees access to private housing in the state are completed as soon as possible.

Governor Masari stated this Monday at the commissioning of 315 low housing units for members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Employers’ Consultative Association (NECA) being financed by FMBN.

The housing unit was constructed at Kabukawa community, Katsina metropolitan area, under the national affordable housing delivery programme for Nigerian workers.

Represented by his deputy, Mannir Yakubu, Masari said there were several projects FMBN had started that were at various stages of completion in the state.

He said completing such projects would enable civil servants and other interested buyers to own private homes and at affordable or mortgage rates.

According to him, “There are other projects by the bank which are at various stages of completion in the state. We encourage the bank to ensure expeditious completion of the projects to expand the opportunity of owning a home,” by teeming civil servants.

He said his administration was committed to providing affordable housing, and would partner with bodies like FMBN to ensure the commitment was realizable.

Speaking, Managing Director, FMBN, Mr Madu Hamman said the 315 houses consist of 52 units of one-bedroom bungalows, 130 units of two-bedroom bungalows, and 124 units of three-bedroom bungalows.

Represented by executive director, finance and corporate services, FMBN, Zubaida Umar, Hamman said the project was provided with basic infrastructure that include road networks, drainages, electricity, and water facilities to all the housing units.

He added that the bank provided mortgage financing for buyers at the rate of 6 percent, with repayment period of over 25 years.
