One worker sustained minor injuries after a five-storey building under construction partially collapsed on Durban Street, Wuse II, Abuja, on Saturday.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) disclosed this in a statement issued through the Press Unit of its Abuja Operations Office.
The agency said it received an alert about the incident at approximately 6:30 p.m. and immediately activated relevant emergency response stakeholders, including the FCT Fire Service.
According to NEMA, a team from the AYA Emergency Response Ambulance Bay was also deployed to coordinate search and rescue operations at the scene.
“Findings at the scene indicated that the incident was minor and involved a five-storey building under construction that had been partially pulled down,” the statement said.
The agency confirmed that no life was lost in the incident, while the injured worker was evacuated to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Abuja Records Series Of Building Collapses
The incident comes amid a series of building collapses recorded in the Federal Capital Territory in recent months.
In September, a three-storey building in Wuse Zone 4 collapsed hours after occupants received a quit notice from the FCT Administration.
The FCT Department of Development Control said the structure had shown signs of distress before the collapse. No casualties were recorded.
In May, at least five people died and 10 others sustained injuries when a three-storey building under construction collapsed in Durumi 3, near Gudu Market, Abuja.
Following the incident, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike ordered a full investigation into the collapse.
The latest incident has renewed attention on construction safety and building oversight in Abuja, particularly at sites where structures are being erected or partially demolished.
