The Family Homes Funds Limited (FHFL) and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) have commenced the construction of 257 affordable housing units for police officers in Grand Luvu, Masaka, Nasarawa State, near Abuja.

The organisations performed the groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, marking the commencement of a project designed to improve accommodation for police personnel and their families.

The Managing Director of FHFL, AbdulMutallab Mukhtar, who attended the groundbreaking ceremony, said the project would begin with the construction of 50 housing units.

He explained that the estate would comprise two-bedroom and three-bedroom houses, with construction expected to be completed within nine months.

Mukhtar reaffirmed FHFL’s commitment to meeting the agreed delivery timeline while ensuring that the project provides quality and affordable homes for police personnel.

He noted that the initiative would leverage private-sector investment and expertise alongside institutional support to deliver housing solutions and generate employment opportunities.

Under the partnership, FHFL will facilitate construction, while the NPTF will provide the infrastructure required for the estate.

Mukhtar also disclosed that the partnership could be extended to existing FHFL estates in Ogun and Kaduna states, as well as new locations across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mohammed Sheidu, said the project reflected both organisations’ commitment to improving the welfare of police officers across the country.

Sheidu noted that effective policing required more than operational equipment and training, stressing that decent accommodation was equally essential to maintaining a motivated and productive workforce.

He said the NPTF intended to identify additional locations nationwide for similar housing developments to address the accommodation needs of police personnel.

Sheidu commended the Federal Government, Nasarawa State Government, Inspector-General of Police and private-sector partners for their support towards the initiative.

Also speaking, the NPTF Commissioner of Police and Head of the Training, Welfare and Training Institutions Development Department, Osifo Emefile, described housing as a critical component of police welfare and operational effectiveness.

He said decent accommodation would provide officers with greater stability and peace of mind, enabling them to concentrate on their professional responsibilities.

Emefile disclosed that the project followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between FHFL and NPTF to address the housing needs of police personnel.

He urged all stakeholders involved in the development to ensure strict compliance with agreed specifications, quality standards and project delivery timelines.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, represented by the Karu Area Commander, ACP Tunde Kabiru, commended the two organisations for the partnership.

Disu urged the developers to maintain high construction standards and ensure that the housing units were delivered according to the agreed terms.

The project is expected to expand access to affordable housing for police officers and their families while creating employment opportunities through construction activities and contributing to efforts to address Nigeria’s housing challenges.
