Tinubu Signals Limited Role in APC’s Nationwide Campaign for 2027
President Bola Tinubu has indicated that he will not accompany the All Progressives Congress (APC) on every campaign tour ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development comes as the ruling party prepares to begin its presidential campaign and organise nationwide mobilisation in support of Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The APC’s Presidential Campaign Council, led by its Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has been working on a schedule for campaign activities across the country.
Yari said after meeting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja that the President had approved a proposed timetable for visits to states ahead of the election.
The campaign council is expected to begin its activities with an inauguration at the State House Banquet Hall on October 14, followed by the official campaign flag-off in Kaduna on October 24. Port Harcourt in Rivers State and Maiduguri in Borno State were identified as subsequent destinations.
The proposed schedule is part of the party’s preparations to reach voters across Nigeria before the 2027 presidential election.
Tinubu’s reported position on attending every campaign tour comes as the APC considers how to coordinate its national campaign and distribute responsibilities among its leaders.
Party governors and other senior officials are expected to play important roles in grassroots mobilisation, rallies and engagements with voters across their respective states.
The campaign will test the APC’s ability to maintain a coordinated national presence while relying on its political structures to promote the President’s re-election bid.
The full campaign itinerary is expected to provide further details on the President’s planned appearances and the responsibilities of other party leaders.
