The federal government has approved a $1 billion facility to support all 36 states in addressing child-maternal mortality challenges.

Coordinating Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Pate, announced this during the Ogun State Maternal and Newborn Mortality Reduction Initiative workshop.

The initiative provides financial incentives for states achieving improved antenatal coverage and recruiting healthcare workers in primary facilities.

Additionally, the federal government is upgrading 774 healthcare centers to offer free emergency obstetric care for maternal health complications.

Pate emphasized the need for collaboration between federal and state governments, considering regional differences in healthcare challenges.

Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele, reaffirmed Ogun State’s commitment to improving maternal and newborn health.

Ogun State has prioritized maternal health, increased health sector funding, and provided emergency transport services in rural areas.

Health Commissioner Dr. Tomi Coker urged stakeholders to embrace innovation, collaboration, and data-driven strategies to reduce maternal and newborn mortality.
