Any final decision would have to be made by member states of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE)
Expo 2020 Dubai is said to be postponed by one year due to the coronavirus pandemic, news agency Reuters has reported, citing a draft statement and sources familiar with the matter.
A year-long postponement was one of several options to be discussed on a conference call this week, with a late-October start also a possibility.
Any final decision would have to be made by member states of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), which awards the event, with an announcement expected in the coming days.
Expo 2020 Dubai is expected to attract 11 million visitors to the six-month-long event, which will feature pavilions from 192 countries.
Sources told Reuters that participants had requested a delay, amid the coronavirus outbreak that has seen countries all over world close borders.
An Expo spokesperson declined to comment.
If delayed, the event would follow on a host of global events that have been rescheduled, including the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the UEFA European Championships.
