A court in Adamawa State has remanded a former judge for allegedly selling other people’s lands without authority to do so.

Bashir Mohammed, an ex-Area Court judge, who retired about three years ago after last serving in Gombi, Gombi council, was remanded in a custodial centre by the Criminal Area Court II in Yola, the state capital.

Mohammed was accused of cheating one Bappa Alhaji Lawan of N730,000 after selling three lands for N660,000 and collecting a further N70,000 for documentation.

Lawan later discovered that the said plots of land situated behind Airforce Comprehensive School, were not the former judge’s property, court papers said.

The defendant pleaded guilty.

Presiding judge Nuhu Garta asked that the defendant be remanded in prison custody, and adjourned the case till August 27 for further proceedings.
